The level 5 qualification in playwork has been up and running since September 2006 we are now taking applications from those who wish to start in September 2008!
Run in partnership with the University of Plymouth, the Foundation Degree is equivalent to the first two years of an honours degree. The programme has a strong vocational element to enable students to link theory to practice: As well as sessions in College you will also be visited and observed in your workplace and both your written work and work practice will be assessed.
How will this course benefit me? The course covers the underpinning knowledge and skills needed to work as a manager in a playwork setting (working with 4-14 year olds in their leisure time).
It will enhance professional practice and enable playworkers to become reflective practitioners.
It has a clear progression route to the final year of a BA Honours degree with the University of Plymouth and students can apply for 3rd years at other universities.
What have the students said? ‘This course has improved my way of working which in turn improves the children’s play and opportunities. Knowledge of different play theorists and psychological theorists I find very interesting.’ (JS – current 2nd year)
‘The course has assisted in my understanding of playwork and enhanced my professional practice.’ (HH – current 2nd year)
