Children and Community Seminar

Working with the ‘whole child’ and seeing the connections between the child, the family and the communities of which they are a part has underpinned key initiatives such as the Assessment Framework for Children in Need and Service developments such as Sure Start, the Children’s Fund, Extended schools and Children’s Centres.

This seminar will look in depth at the child and family in the community. Using a combination of research evidence and practice experience the following areas will be explored;
- Why is ‘community’ important for children and parents who face disadvantage
- Mapping the local community to understand how it might contribute to, or detract from, the resilience of children and families
- Children’s experience of urban and rural communities
- Using community process to engage with ‘hard to reach’ families
- Approaches and practice skills necessary to work directly with children in their communities.
