Despite 25 years of adventurous, free and open access play provision for more than 2,500 children and young people living in the disadvantaged area of White City in Gloucester, this local playground is in danger of closure from April 2008.
For a quarter of a century The ‘Venture’ (as it is known locally) has received core funding and valued support from both Gloucester City and Gloucestershire County Council. Now, though, the move away from core to project funding by the local authorities - combined with the end of Gloucestershire Children’s Fund and many years of Lottery support - have pushed this small play association to the brink of extinction.
The ‘Venture’ is being supported by Community Counts and Play Gloucestershire in a bid to stave off closure and ensure this unique and much loved project survives. If you can help them in any way please contact Dawn Adams, Manager, White City Adventure Playground 01452 303199 or Pip Levett, Director of Play, Play Gloucestershire 07799 125308 or email: piplevett@mac.com.
